CONTEMPORARY BLUES ALBUM: The Franklin Sessions
AMERCAN ROOTS SONG: The Right Thing
Mike Guldin first picked up the guitar at age 15 and since then has honed his craft playing in roadhouses, clubs and bars, and Festivals and Theaters for over 45 years. A journeyman of the blues, Guldin has opened for and shared billing with a wide range of artists including Sam Moore, Delbert McClinton, Levon Helm, EG Kight, Tab Benoit, Tommy Castro, Teresa James, The Nighthawks, Little Milton, Shemekia Copeland, Debbie Davies, Saffire The Uppity Blues Woman, Michael Hill and his Blues Mob, John Sebastian and Jimmy Vivino.
The Franklin Sessions was born out of the desire to get back to a more organic approach to recording. All of the rhythm tracks included here were cut with one take live in the studio. Kevin McKendree put a great band together consisting of Yates McKendree on drums, David Santos on bass, James Pennebaker on guitar and Kevin on keys; we cut 4 tracks in this session. I was so pleased with the sound, I brought my Rollin’ & Tumblin’ Bandmates Bill Sharrow, Billy Wear and Tim Hooper back down to The Rock House and recorded 9 tracks over two days with Kevin joining us on keys. These recordings capture the essence of Rollin’ & Tumblin’ and we hope you dig it!
